Community College Initiative (CCI) programs provide quality educational programs, professional development, employment skills and a first-hand understanding of American society to underserved, non-elite international young adults. Students participating in the program return home to contribute to the continued economic and democratic development of their home nations using the skills they have gained in the United States.
CCID administers the Community College Initiative Programs with funding from the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). CCID and ECA are working with Fulbright Commissions and in-country partners to recruit, select and prepare participants for their U.S. experience.
The CCID 2009 Community College Initiative Programs will bring approximately 150 students from Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Africa, Ghana, Cuba, Turkey, and Central America, as well as 225 from Egypt. Participants will study at accredited U.S. community colleges for one-year training programs in seven fields of study, including: Agriculture, Applied Engineering, Business, Health, Information Technology, Media, and Tourism & Hospitality Management. |

Ahmed and Ragab, two participants in the CCID IAE Program at Kirkwood Community College, met Iowa Governor Chet Culver and were made honorary senators on Tuesday, January 12th. Ahmed and Ragab enjoyed seeing the political process in action and learning about the governor’s roles and responsibilities.
