| Three Scandinavian countries: Denmark, Norway and Sweden, were visited during this trip. The CCID delegation consisted of 8 senior administrators from four CCID colleges Pima County Community College, Green River Community College, Kirkwood Community College and Davidson County Community College, and one representative from CCID. The main purpose behind organizing this visit was to provide an opportunity for the CCID colleges to become acquainted with, and compare the life and education systems in this northern region of Europe. The visitors first flew to Copenhagen, capital of Denmark. They spent a day and a half learning about the education system of the country as well as visiting some of the cultural and historical highlights the Royal Palace, Tivoli Gardens or a statue of the Little Mermaid. Outside of Copenhagen, in the city of Kolding, the administrators met with the representatives of 10 Danish colleges, and exchanged with them information about their own institutions through a series of presentations. In the next part of their trip, the group transferred via boat to the capital of Norway Oslo. Here, they learned about the fundamentals of the education system in this country and they also met with the U.S. diplomatic representation in Norway. And as the last stop on their trip, the delegates had a chance to stroll through the quiet streets of Stockholm, and admire some of its cultural landmarks. A visit at the Ministry of Education and the Karolinska Institute concluded their 11-day visit. The program and the logistics of this visit were skillfully arranged by Ms. Birde Berg, CCID Principal based in Denmark, in cooperation with her Scandinavian partners. |
