There are few individuals that can successfully combine a passion for education, business, and community involvement. Our nominee brings this passion to every organization and project in which he is involved. He has been a successful business owner, a recognized community leader, and is well known for his involvement in international education. |
He has received awards and recognitions for his international, national, and local efforts on behalf of a variety of organizations and community groups. |

Born in Cuba, he has helped refugees and migrants by developing entrepreneur training programs, by establishing educational scholarships, and providing employment and training opportunities. As an elementary school teacher, he taught migrant children during the day and their parents at night. |
For over twelve years, he and his wife owned a successful company in Sacramento, California, providing strategic planning, business training, computer selection, business plans, research, marketing studies, and management consulting services to private companies, government agencies, small businesses, and entrepreneurs. In 1988, they sold their business, packed two small bags, and headed for the Pacific. Four-months later, having visited Honk Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia, they moved to Mexico City! |
In Mexico, our nominee served as Country Director for the International Executive Service Corps, a non-profit organization that provides technical assistance to developing countries using retired executives as volunteers. Other IESC assignments include technical assistance in Belize, Guatemala, Brazil, Argentina, and Hungary. |
Leaving IESC, he began a new career in international education. Bringing his extensive international and national business contacts, he quickly developed linkages among educational institutions and business partners. |
Our Nominee has served as the CCID International Education Director at two institutions, Daytona Beach Community College and Rancho Santiago Community College District. He and his wife have worked, lived or traveled in over thirty countries. At least for now, they call California home. |

We are delighted that Francisco Bertot is the Year 2001 Dr. Werner Kubsch Award Winner. |
