Dr. Richard Fonte Receives Kubsch Award

Photo of Dr. Richard FonteDr. Richard Fonte, President, Austin Community College was recently awarded the Year 2000 Werner Kubsch Award for Outstanding Achievements in International Education. The Award was presented during the 23rd Annual Conference of Community Colleges for International Education, held in Orlando, Florida, January 29th - February 1st, 2000. The nomination of Dr. Fonte for the Award indicated an outstanding and lengthy career focusing on international education, cultural and trade related issues. Under his leadership, Austin Community College has achieved new heights of involvement in exchanges, curriculum and training issues, and workforce development. Mexico, Europe, Canada, Australia as well as domestic achievements were highlighted during the awards ceremony.

The Werner Kubsch Award is presented at the CCID Annual Conference, to a community college educator, selected by the CCID Board of Directors, who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in international education related to community colleges, and to the betterment of international relations. The award consists of a stipend, a recognition plaque, and allows a complimentary registration to the CCID Annual Conference. In addition to the nomination criteria, the Board looks for creativity, innovation and demonstrated achievement.

Dr. Werner O. Kubsch (1922-1992) was the founder and President of Studiosus Reisen Munchen, Germany, the largest independent educational and cultural travel organization in Europe. During a distinguished career he received many national and international awards and became a close friend of the American community college system.

Anyone, including non-CCID colleges, may submit a nomination for this award. The Werner Kubsch Award is supported through the kind generosity of the Friends of Werner Kubsch, and by Community Colleges for International Development.
